The Canberra Chapter of the AMC held our 2018 AGM and a presentation on the evening of the 22^nd March at Engineering House in Canberra. This is a wonderful venue for presentations and the Engineers Australia staff, as usual do everything they can to make the evening run like clockwork.

After a get together session over tea and coffee, it was down to business in the main auditorium. The presentation was about Asset Management Systems in Asset Intensive Industries, and with a total of 17 attendees from universities, defence, electricity distribution and consulting engineers, there was plenty of input from the audience, making for an interesting evening.

The cold and blustery Canberra evening didn’t prevent the rollup of dedicated engineers and professionals to listen to EESA National president, Jeff Allen and AMCouncil Canberra Chapter Chair, Mike Schulzer talk about Managing Change in the Electric Energy Industry.

The Canberra Chapter of the AMC hosted the second joint AIPM-AMC presentation to a packed audience at Engineering House in Barton, ACT on Tuesday evening of 14^th August.

We've now just passed our fourth session in our fortnightly 'Asset Management in Action' series, showcasing projects from our Excellence Awards finalists during AMPEAK16 and 17. Thank you to David Scott from Wave Digital, who took the time to tell us all about their project, developing a system integration and data visualisation framework for South East Water, and to Tim Purves from Icon Water who talked us through the development of a Program of Work Balance Model.

AMCouncil is seeking expressions of interest from asset management professionals wanting to join a study tour to China, to coincide with the ISO 5500x meeting happening in Nanjing 6th - 10th May 2019.

An engaging and motivational presenter and facilitator, Digby took the audience through the climate risk-to-reward spectrum in a webinar last night, exploring how an asset might respond to climate risk in achievable and profitable ways that can contribute to the owner’s brand strength.

There’s no doubt about it, Darwin is one of Australia’s hottest cities. And by hot, we mean heat-affected, as well as a cool spot for tourists moving around and exploring the great outdoors. Hot cities mean hot assets, which means more energy is required to cool them, which means more carbon emissions, which means a worsening impact on our world. We need to cool down. And that’s the aim behind the Cavenagh Street heat mitigation trial.

Darwin Chapter 1st Session: The New Beginning

The AMCouncil Darwin Chapter extends its invite to members and non-members for attendance to the inaugural event with keynote speech by Dave Daines the current Chairman of the AM Council (online). The Keynote will focus on the vision of the AMCouncil within Australia over the next few years, and a short presentation into the introduction of how AM can provide value to the region.

Most often, maintenance and upgrade work is dirty work.

In 2020, Coliban Water completed possibly the dirtiest of upgrades. The Heathcote Sewer Scheme Project was designed to provide reticulated sewerage services to properties still using septic tanks. Residents and business owners in the Heathcote area now have a safer and more environmentally friendly way to manage wastewater¹.

The South Australian Government recently announced major plans and investment into reducing energy costs in government buildings.

The $60 million commitment is expected to generate hundreds of local jobs, as tradies provide retrofits to existing building assets. Older buildings can get very hot in summer, yet by simply upgrading lighting and insulation, installing air-conditioning and adding sensors and energy management software programs, these government buildings can improve energy efficiency ratings, while also ensuring they are more comfortable and healthier places to work¹.

The Asset Management Council in conjunction with the Centre for Professional Engineer and Education (CPEE) have collaborated to launch a new four unit Graduate Certificate in Asset Management (GCAM) commencing Semester 1 2021.

A range of electives within this 4 Unit program ensures both aspiring and current asset managers and engineers have the skills and recognition for career enhancement.

Changes to Australia’s Authorised Witness List took effect on 18^th September 2018 and include a change that any engineer accredited under a State or Commonwealth law will now be added to the authorised witness list. Take a look at the updated legislation and the list of authorised witnesses here.

GFMAM met virtually during November 2020.  Dave Daines and John Hardwick are the AM Council representatives at the Global Forum on Maintenance & Asseet Management (GFMAM) and attended the virtual GFMAM meetings held every evening from 9pm till well after 1am in the morning.  Read the latest communique to find out the progress of each of the projects currently being undertaken by the GFMAM here.
