A successful AGM was held by our AMCouncil Sydney chapter last Thursday. On behalf of the continuing committee members wewelcome Stephen Poropatto the AMC Sydney Chapter 2019committee! It will be great to have a new face (?) on the team as we continue our strong growth in the chapter.

A great attendence of approximately 45 at Sydney's technical and networking session last week. It was noted that Mark Ragusa from Ausgrid has filled the remaining vacant committee membership position, and we welcome him on board.

The Chapter then heard from Lucio Favotto, Principal Manager Infrastructure and Fleet Services, Transport for NSW. Lucio provided an insightful presentation on the following - Asset Management across a multi-modal asset portfolio - Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

Sydney chapter members enjoyed hearing some detailed insights last night, 17 May, into the application of Asset Management to the power distribution industry during a presentation by Murray Chandler - Ausgrid's Head of Asset Management Strategy, Performance & Innovation.

This year's symposium will focus on Asset Management in Government and aims to bring representatives from various state governments together to share experiences and challenges in Asset Management and provide a forum for information sharing.

In a joint event last night between the AMCouncil and SESA (Systems Engineering Society of Australia) we brought together the philosophies and disciplines of Asset Management and Systems Engineering in Public Transport. It was interesting hearing different perspectives from panellists Len Neist, Anthea Antonio, Heather Moody and Paul O'Hallaron as they touched on using both asset management and systems engineering to break down any silos and to better understand and address the interfaces and interdependencies.

Why do we keep solving the same problems more than once?  Traditionally problems are solved by an individual or a small team often overwhelmed by many daily problems meaning that time and attention is limited. 

Once problems are solved, the actions and solutions are typically shared with a small population with the expectation that they will be implemented.  What checks and balances are in place to ensure the correct solution?

Asset Management in Government Forum - register to attend in person in Perth or dial in online

Join the Asset Management Council Perth Chapter for an update on current developments in government asset management policy and practice and an opportunity to network with government asset management executives and practitioners.

This event is aimed at enabling government agencies to share experience and knowledge related to asset management practice in a state and commonwealth government context. It follows previous successful events showcasing approaches to asset management planning adopted by government agencies and sharing lessons learned. It also provides a forum for government asset management executives and practitioners to network with other agencies outside their portfolios.

Wednesday 26th September saw the Brisbane Chapter provide a seminar on 'What an Asset Management System is and isn't.' The 2 hour presentation was hosted by committee members Keith Paintin and Mark Jordan, who provided an interactive walk through of the Asset Management System and its key elements from the AM Policy through to people capabilities and also debated what does optimisation really mean to an organisation.

Last week, our Women in Asset Management special interest group hosted the Sydney Chapter Asset Management Council webinar - Lidija Dumbaloska, Professional Head, Electrical Engineering, Engineering & System Integrity, Sydney Trains joined with Alan Skofic, Principal Engineer, Substations, Sydney Trains provided the virtual audience with a comprehensive deep dive in to Electrical Initiatives and strategies that have commenced and are implemented on a rail network.
