Climate change is already impacting the provision of water services. This presentation will provide an overview of the Corporation’s response to date and efforts to better understand the risk to our services in the future. This will inform future asset investment and contingency planning to build the resilience of our water services. \nDanielle Higgs\, Manager Asset Management System & Risk\, Water Corporation\nDanielle Higgs is an Environmental Engineer with over 25years water industry experience. She has worked across a variety of functions including leadership\, strategy\, planning\, operations and business improvement roles. Danielle is currently leading a team undertaking asset climate risk assessments and improving the Water Corporation’s contingency plans.  Danielle is also the Water Corporation’s representative on the Water Services Association of Australia’s Liveable Communities Committee.  This Committee is overseeing water industry wide initiatives to respond to the challenge of climate variability in order to achieve the water industry’s vision of supporting thriving and resilient communities. \n\nUniversity Perspective\nThe University sector has seen a sharp increase in industry-sponsored research projects tackling the effect of climate change on new or mature infrastructure. This presentation will provide a short overview of multi-million dollar research projects from Australia and internationally which aim to unlock new knowledge into designing and maintaining safe and resilient infrastructure in a changing climate. \nCristina Vulpe\, Senior Lecturer\, The University of Western Australia\nCristina Vulpe is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Western Australia. She lectures in Environmental Geotechnics and Risk\, Reliability & Safety. These units broaden students’ understanding of how infrastructure and systems impact on and interact with the environment. \nThrough her research\, she provides safe and economic solutions for the deployment and management of onshore and offshore infrastructure throughout their lifecycle\, taking into account the effect of the changing climate. \n\nConsulting Perspective\nIndustry is recognising the need to understand climate risk and invest in resilience measures to ensure acceptable levels of service are maintained into the future. The consulting sector plays a critical role in supporting asset intensive organisations to address the risks presented by climate change. This presentation will provide an overview of the consulting experience applying asset management approaches to address climate change risk. \nAdam Rotapel\, Manager\, KPMG\nAdam is a Manager in KPMG’s Engineering & Asset Management practice with 15 years of consulting experience across power\, water and other utilities sectors. Adam has been involved in all phases of infrastructure projects from asset management strategy and investment planning through to procurement and project delivery. Adam is the Chair of the Asset Management Perth Chapter and recently presented at the OzWater 24 conference on the topic of investing in climate change resilience. In his current consulting role Adam combines engineering\, risk\, project management and asset management expertise to deliver holistic business improvements to asset intensive organisations.

SUMMARY:Sydney - Asset Management Evolution in the Age of the Energy Transition
DESCRIPTION:The drive towards a sustainable future is reshaping the global landscape and has consequently moved to the forefront in the world of asset management. Since COP21 in 2015\, organisations and governments have began addressing the huge challenge of decarbonisation. Since infrastructure\, construction and operation constitutes 70% of global GHG emissions\, sustainable asset strategies are a key enabler of this global ambition. \nThe energy transition transcends the energy sector\, impacting organisations across the board. From utilities to transportation\, and from manufacturing to public services\, every asset portfolio is undergoing a pivotal change. Where once the triad of risk\, performance\, and cost dictated asset management\, we now witness an incremental fourth dimension – sustainability. \nAsset management principles are also evolving. The Institute of Asset Management’s Asset Anatomy’s fourth edition explicitly recognises the urgent need to embed ESG considerations\, carbon abatement\, and circular economy principles into asset management methodologies. This shift majorly attributes to the evolution of the 6-box capability model into a more holistic 10 Box perspective. \nThis presentation will unpack these changes and explore examples of asset portfolios around the world effectively applying these new and evolved capabilities\, by employing novel renewable solutions\, as they advance through the energy transition. \n  \nClick here to register\nThis is an in person event. \n  \n\nAbout the Speaker:\nEmily Mulcair\, Manager\, KPMG\nEmily is a Manager in KPMG’s Engineering and Asset Management team. Spending her early career in Ireland working on biomethane and hydrogen feasibility and detailed design projects\, Emily now consults on largescale energy system reviews\, maintaining a passion for the integration of renewable gas into the global energy mix in the transition to net zero.
