SUMMARY:Sydney - Sydney Metro Asset Management
DESCRIPTION:Sean Caldwell\, Director of Asset Management & Engineering\, will explore the Sydney Metro Agency’s approach to asset management within a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) context\, providing attendees with insights into the operational and contractual complexities faced in delivering major transport infrastructure. \nClick here to register\n  \nKey areas covered will include: \n\nHow PPP contracts operate within Sydney Metro.\nThe evolution of these PPPs over time.\nThe treatment of standards and how Sydney Metro’s approach has developed.\nAsset management practices within PPP frameworks at Sydney Metro.\n\nThe presentation will highlight the challenges of managing owned assets within a dynamic contractual landscape. It will examine how Sydney Metro has responded to legislative and standards changes over time\, and how these have been incorporated into more recent contracts. \nA high-level summary will outline how the initial approach to standards has shifted\, the drivers behind these changes\, and the implications for both new and existing contracts—particularly in the context of augmenting current Operations and Maintenance (O&M) phase contracts with additional requirements. The case of the Northwest project and the development of new standards will be discussed\, along with how Sydney Metro has built on this foundation to ensure future PPPs adhere to critical standards. \nA practical example will be shared on how changes to legislation—specifically around the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI)—were implemented during the O&M phase\, illustrating the challenges of enacting legislative changes within PPP contracts and their asset management implications. \nThe session will conclude with an overview of Sydney Metro’s current approach to managing owned assets in this contractual environment\, identifying the key tasks considered critical to success\, the mechanisms used to provide assurance in contractor-delivered activities\, and how the relationship with the O&M contractor shapes Sydney Metro’s involvement and approach to managing disputes. \nClick here to register\n\n  \nAbout the Speaker:\nSean Caldwell\, Director Asset Management & Engineering\, Sydney Metro\nSean has worked in the Rail Industry for the last 24 years\, originally from the UK\, Sean trained as a Signalling Engineer and has spent his career working across the UK\, Australia and New Zealand within Signalling Testing and Commissioning.
