SUMMARY:Melbourne - Asset Investment Planning: Critical Success Factors for a Strategic Business Function
DESCRIPTION:Asset Investment Planning (AIP) is a critical function of any asset intensive organisation. When performed well\, organisations can unlock significant capital and generate additional value for stakeholders. Conversely\, inadequate AIP practices often result in elevated lifecycle costs\, uncoordinated activities and an underperforming asset portfolio that poses service interruptions\, public safety risks and misalignment with evolving societal needs. \nThe presenter\, Rory Gibbons\, brings over a decade of expertise in implementing AIP frameworks across both public and private sectors. With comprehensive experience spanning diverse industries including education\, local government\, maritime infrastructure\, transportation\, and water utilities\, Rory has successfully delivered AIP initiatives across an extensive range of assets from municipal streetlighting to critical national port infrastructure. \nIn the session\, Rory will share a selection of key learnings and case studies from his professional portfolio which will demonstrate the successful application of AIP principles. Rory will emphasise the importance of project fundamentals\, the power of asset criticality and the need for a multilingual expression of outcomes. Furthermore Rory will highlight common watchouts and provide tips that can become strength multipliers for your AIP practices. \nClick here to register\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Rory Gibbons is an Asset Services Team Lead at Brightly\, where he leads asset investment planning projects for APAC clients. This keynote will introduce Te Waihanga Infrastructure Commission’s role in the investment management system and outline how the National Infrastructure Plan\, the Government response\, and the Commission’s emerging asset management assurance function are shaping expectations for stronger\, more disciplined asset management across central government.  \nThe presentation will provide a practical overview of Te Waihanga’s Asset Management and Investment Planning Guidance\, with a particular focus on meeting Cabinet’s requirements\, performance metrics\, and the shift from project-led decision-making to long-term\, portfolio-based asset management planning. While the Guidance is directed at central government agencies\, the principles are relevant to all asset-intensive organisations: better use of evidence\, demand and economic forecasts; stronger whole-of-life planning; and ensuring that business cases are grounded in robust asset management and investment plans – moving beyond short-term responses and building the strategic foundations needed.  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jessie Lea is Special Advisor for Asset Management at the Infrastructure Commission\, leading initiatives to improve asset management across central government.
