SUMMARY:Melbourne - Local Government Asset Planning - Getting the Most From Community Consultation
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Local Government Act 2020 requires local government authorities to undertake a number of asset management responsibilities as part of their asset planning cycles. \nOne of these responsibilities is deliberative community engagement\, which is designed to ensure the wants and needs of the local community are adequately reflected in local government financial\, asset\, and strategic plans. \nDeliberative engagement presents both a challenge and a value proposition to local government authorities — from the perspectives of efficiency and effectiveness\, as well as the opportunity to capture valuable insights and context. \nCindy Plowman from Conversation Co actively supports local government authorities in navigating and maximising value through the deliberative engagement process. Cindy has a wealth of experience working with community groups and will share her knowledge and insights on how to leverage community input to produce meaningful impact for all parties. \n  \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Sydney - Digital Twins for Electricity Network Asset Management
DESCRIPTION:In the evolving landscape of asset management\, digital twins have emerged as a transformative technology\, offering robust solutions to enhance the optimisation of risk\, cost and performance across Ausgrid’s network assets. This presentation delves into the concept of digital twins—virtual replicas of physical assets—and explores their emerging role in supporting decision-making across the asset management lifecycle. \nDigital twins enable large-scale asset monitoring and preventative maintenance opportunities\, allowing organisations to address asset condition proactively—before it degrades to failure. By leveraging advanced data analytics and machine learning\, digital twins provide actionable insights that drive informed decision-making\, thereby reducing operational risk and extending asset lifecycles. \nFurthermore\, the integration of digital twins into Ausgrid’s asset management system facilitates a comprehensive understanding of asset risk and performance under varying conditions. This holistic view supports the optimisation of asset utilisation\, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively. \nThis presentation by Ausgrid’s Alex Watters (Manager Asset Insights) and Stephanie Forsmann (ND Program Development Manager) will highlight case studies and practical applications at Ausgrid\, demonstrating how our implementation of a digital twin is contributing to cost savings\, enhanced reliability\, and improved overall asset performance to meet stakeholder requirements. \nJoin us to explore the future of asset management through the lens of digital twins\, and discover how this technology is helping Ausgrid deliver tangible benefits in managing our $18 billion asset base. \nClick here to register \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Alex Watters is Manager of Asset Insights at Ausgrid\, where he has worked for the past 17 years. SUMMARY:Webinar - Open Standards and BIM - what are they\, why are they important\, how to use them to your advantage
DESCRIPTION:Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been around for a long time and is now becoming commonplace\, and often a requirement\, on many building and infrastructure projects. The key component of BIM is the information element\, and when properly adopted it provides the backbone for efficiently managing data from the early conception of the asset being built through to operations and handover. \nHowever\, this can only be achieved with data that is well-defined early and the use of open standards\, or OpenBIM. This approach allows both the 3D geometry representing the asset and its connected data to move between various platforms or lifecycle stages\, always remaining accessible and able to be used in combination with 3D geometry (where required). \nEric Bugeja\, Chairperson of buildingSMART Australasia\, will provide you with an overview of information management best practice and the tools available to improve project efficiency. \nClick here to register \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Eric has been at the forefront of applying technology to improve efficiency. His early engineering career focused on the development of leading-edge automation for manufacturing processes\, using technology to enhance both quality and production speed. He was also an early adopter of 3D design and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Following this\, Eric worked with a start-up company to transition from R&D into large-scale manufacturing. Over the past ten years\, he has shifted his expertise from manufacturing to transport infrastructure engineering and construction\, managing teams at GHD and serving as a Project Director. Eric has a passion for technology and driving industry change. He has been closely involved in the implementation and standardisation of Digital Engineering in infrastructure and is currently EIC’s Principal for Digital Integration and Capability\, supporting the CIMIC operating companies\, which include CPB Contractors\, UGL\, Leighton Asia\, Thiess\, Sedgman and Broad. He is also the Chairman of buildingSMART Australasia and was recently appointed to the buildingSMART International Board.

They will discuss career highlights\, key lessons learned along the way\, and top tips for emerging professionals in asset management. \nThis event is a great opportunity for both emerging professionals and seasoned practitioners to gain valuable insights and network with others in the industry. While this is an Emerging Professionals event\, all practitioners are welcome to attend. \nOur panellists include: \n\nMaddison King\, Asset Project Coordinator\, Taronga Zoo\nSally Busch\, Asset Strategy and Performance Lead\, Ausgrid\nGavin Cavanagh\, Systems Engineering SME\n\n  \nClick here to register\n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Maddison King graduated from UTS in 2020 with a Bachelor of Construction Project Management and a Diploma of Innovation. During her studies\, she gained industry experience working with BHP on the Olympic Dam mine in South Australia before moving into a role as a Quality Engineer on the Snowy Hydro 2.0 tunnels project. Wanting to return to Sydney\, Maddison joined John Holland as a Site Engineer\, where she spent three years working on large-scale infrastructure projects including the Rozelle Interchange and the M7/M12 Integration Project. Recently\, she transitioned to the client side by joining the Assets team at Taronga Zoo\, where she manages projects under $2 million. This role provides a unique perspective compared with contractor-side delivery of multi-billion-dollar projects\, requiring Maddison to carefully balance asset replacement and maintenance while prioritising safety\, quality\, cost\, time\, and the welfare of both guests and animals.\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sally Busch has extensive experience across the aviation\, defence\, and energy sectors\, bringing a multidisciplinary perspective to asset management. At Ausgrid\, she shapes asset strategies that balance cost\, risk and performance to guide decisions supporting a rapidly evolving electricity network. Her background includes technical leadership in asset strategy and performance\, climate resilience\, modelling\, reliability\, and strategic engineering support across the asset lifecycle.\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Gavin Cavanagh has held a number of Systems Engineering positions at TfNSW\, Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink over the past nine years\, along with Asset Resilience roles more recently. Prior to the transport sector\, Gavin worked in the defence and aerospace sector for 20 years in Australia\, including 16 years as a uniformed Air Force Officer and four years in the defence industry\, again in Systems Engineering and Life Cycle Management. His experience in Asset Resilience stems from his military background with the Defence-in-Depth approach and is an extension of his Systems Engineering knowledge and expertise. Gavin has a Master of Engineering (Systems Engineering) and is currently undertaking a PhD\, researching the application of Systems Engineering to transport projects in NSW.\n \n \n \n
