SUMMARY:Webinar - Advancing Climate Resilience in the Transport Sector - Climate Change and Natural Hazard Risk Assessment and Adaptation Planning Guidelines (AM in Action - a 2025 Excellence Award Submission)
DESCRIPTION:Climate change is placing growing pressure on transport infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand. In this session\, discover how the new Austroads Climate Change and Natural Hazard Risk Assessment and Adaptation Planning Guidelines—developed by AECOM—are helping agencies proactively manage these challenges. You’ll learn how to apply a structured\, evidence-based approach to assessing climate risks and planning targeted adaptations\, with practical takeaways for building resilience into your organisation’s transport asset management strategy. \nClick here to register \nPart of the Asset Management in Action Webinar Series – showcasing submissions from the 2025 Excellence Awards. \nPresenters: \n\nAllan Klindworth\, Associate Director – Sustainability and Resilience\, AECOM\nJoanne Vanselow\, Program Manager\, Vehicles & Technology / Environment & Sustainability\, Austroads\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Allan Klindworth is an Associate Director – Sustainability and Resilience at AECOM. He has over 18 years of experience delivering complex\, thought leading climate adaptation projects. He has worked with all levels of government as well as private sector organisations\, helping them to understand the risks presented by the changing climate and to build their resilience through adaptation planning. This work has included assessing risks to existing asset portfolios and integrating consideration of climate change impacts into strategic planning and asset design processes. Allan’s climate resilience experience includes the state-wide assessment of climate risks to Government infrastructure for Infrastructure Victoria and supporting the integration of climate resilience and sustainability policy into the delivery of major infrastructure projects\, including Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project and the North East Link and West Gate Tunnel projects. Allan has also developed climate risk and adaptation frameworks and guidance for federal\, state and international government agencies\, including Austroads\, USAID\, the Australian Department of Defence\, the former Australian Government Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency and the former Victorian Department of Transport.\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Joanne Vanselow is a Program Manager at Austroads\, the association of Australian and New Zealand transport agencies. With 17 years of experience spanning both the private and public sectors\, she brings a unique\, holistic perspective to the challenges of modern transport. Joanne began her career as an automotive engineer\, where she developed an understanding of vehicle systems and innovation. She then transitioned into the public sector\, applying her expertise to policy and strategy\, and managed key projects in vehicle safety data insights and trialling connected and automated vehicle technologies. In her current role\, she helps transport agencies to operate a safe and sustainable network by managing two critical programs of work: the vehicles and technology program\, which harnesses the benefits of emerging technologies to improve safety\, sustainability and productivity\, and the environment and sustainability program\, which embeds sustainability into transport decision-making. She is currently managing a suite of projects around climate change resilience and transport decarbonisation with a focus on enabling Austroads members to integrate these considerations into the way they plan\, build and manage transport assets and networks..
