DESCRIPTION:BHP (Asset Owner)\, AECOM (Owner’s Engineer)\, and Duratec (Contractor) completed the BHP Berth C & D Structural Remediation Selection Phase Study Project (The Project) in 2022\, setting a new standard for the procurement and scoping of major marine asset remediation projects. The project involved innovative approaches\, including a 2-5mm 3D reality model for 1.2km of wharf structure\, bespoke online software for defect management\, and a collaborative approach to inspection\, testing\, and design\, resulting in a robust procurement framework for the asset’s life extension. The project was delivered over approximately 12 months\, starting in mid-2021. \n  \nClick here to register\n  \nAbout the speaker:  \nLiam Holloway\, National Technical Manager\, Duratec \nLiam Holloway’s unique skills and expertise as a materials engineer specialising in durability and corrosion\, traverse key infrastructure sectors including marine\, mining\, defence and energy. Liam completed his PhD in the field of corrosion inhibition and monitoring for reinforced concrete structures at Monash University. Following this he has worked in both the consulting and contracting fields with a focus on asset condition assessment\, remediation and maintenance. In 2015 Liam establish MEnD Consulting\, which was later acquired by Duratec Limited. Tuku Iho in this instance is explained as “our living legacy”. This reflects the ambition to leave the estate and the wider environment in a better condition for future generations. There are four pillars that provide the structure for the framework\, which highlight the complexities and interrelationships across all areas of sustainability. Tuku Iho includes a key action to mitigate the impacts to / from climate change\, while being more comprehensively sustainable. \nAdditionally\, the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is a participant of the Carbon Neutral Government Programme (CNGP)\, which has been set up to accelerate the reduction of emissions within the public sector. The CNGP requires the measurement and verification of emissions annually\, and a number of key emissions reduction activities to achieve carbon neutrality. \nLee and Rachel will provide insight into the NZDF’s progress to-date\, and discuss how the Defence Estate is mitigating and adapting to climate change\, including how sustainability is being embedded into building designs to reduce emissions in both construction and operation\, as well as to keep people and assets safe from climate hazards that are likely to occur in the area. \nDr Lee Bint\, Director Sustainability\, New Zealand Defence Force\nLee has been leading the Defence sustainability journey since 2018\, establishing and implementing their first sustainability framework and leading a team of technical experts across energy\, sustainable buildings\, resilience and sustainability. During this time\, she has also co-founded the all-of-government sustainability group\, supported numerous other government agencies in commencing on their sustainability pathway\, held the position as Vice Chair of the Carbon & Energy Professionals Board and welcomed her daughter into the world. \nPrior to Defence\, Lee worked as a Sustainable Building Scientist at BRANZ while also completing the Sustainable Business Council Future Leaders’ Programme and being elected the Future Leader’s Representative on the Sustainable Business Council Board\, and also working with UnionAID as the hosts of the Myanmar Young Leaders Programme. \nLee completed her PhD in Building Science at Victoria University of Wellington\, which included the development of a Water Efficiency Rating Tool that was awarded runner-up at the Grow Wellington Bright Ideas Challenge in 2011. \nRachel Wood\, Sustainability Advisor\, GHD\nRachel is an Environmental Economist with a master’s degree in Economics from Auckland University of Technology (AUT) majoring in Ecological Footprint Accounting. As a student\, she discovered a passion for resource management\, climate change research\, environmental economics (impact analysis)\, and social development. She is interested in improving the sustainability of social and economic activity through innovative solutions and effective strategies. During her time at GHD\, she has become more engaged with greenhouse gas accounting for carbon emissions auditing and Climate Change Risk Assessments. \nPresentation 2: Climate-related disclosures\, scenario analysis\, and the TCFD framework – what it means for asset management in practice\nWhat can – and should – asset managers do now in the face of increasing climate change impacts\, evolving climate policies\, and potentially insufficient financial and human resources to address it? The Taskforce on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework offers an answer – about how to manage climate change strategy\, targets\, action planning\, risk management and financial decisions. \nTCFD reporting – also called climate-related disclosures or climate statements in New Zealand – is now mandatory for most of the country’s financial system and listed companies. It is strongly incentivised for the public sector\, too\, which reports to the Ministry for the Environment and Climate Change Commission under the Zero Carbon Act. \nApplied to asset management\, TCFD reporting can consolidate information on where you want to get to\, what you need to do\, and the good work you’re already doing – but perhaps not thinking of it as climate-related. In the guise of a reporting framework\, TCFD reporting is a strategic planning exercise\, which asset managers can use to test the resilience of their current strategies. Like testing a plane in a wind tunnel\, the TCFD framework uses climate scenario analysis to consider different plausible futures\, such as rapid decarbonisation or ‘hot house’ warming scenarios. \nWith insurers and banks among those required to report\, and international adoption of TCFD reporting in the UK\, TCFD is where all entities’ climate change reporting is going. And it can be immensely helpful to asset managers seeking to organise their approach to climate change. \nMatt Raeburn\, Principal – Strategic Advisory (Climate Change and Sustainability)\, WSP\nMatt is a Principal climate strategist based in WSP’s Wellington office with 18 years of experience in Aotearoa New Zealand and the US. An American-Kiwi who spent a decade in environmental law and policy in Washington DC and Portland\, Oregon\, Matt worked in the Ministry for the Environment’s Climate Directorate from 2018-2021. There\, he implemented parallel TCFD reporting regimes under the Zero Carbon Act and Financial Sector Amendment Act. \nOver 7 years in New Zealand\, Matt has worked with corporate\, council and Central Government asset managers on their climate risks\, strategies\, and reporting projects as a consultant for EY\, Beca\, and now WSP. He recently developed climate scenarios for NZ’s construction and property sector and previously led delivery of the Wellington Regional Climate Change Impact Assessment. \nAdele Jones\, Principal – Strategic Advisory (Asset Management)\, WSP\nAdele is a Principal in our Strategic Advisory team with 20+ years of experience\, leading and delivering a diverse range of strategic advisory\, asset management\, network management and procurement projects\, both nationally and internationally. DESCRIPTION:Digitising Asset Management and Building a Capable Workforce – Marty Stafford\, Assets Manager\, Southern Ports \nIn 2020\, Southern Ports set out to transform its existing asset management practices into a world class\, fully digital Asset Management System (AMS). \nGuided by a clear Strategic Development Plan with a 10-year horizon\, and a vision of ‘Strong Regional Ports\, Strong Regions\, the Board and Executive devised a comprehensive asset management vision and direction. With unwavering leadership and foundations in place\, the Asset Management team developed and implemented a fully integrated and digitised AMS\, aligned with ISO 55000 and asset management best practice\, including the four principles of the Asset Management Council’s Asset Management Concept Model. \nWithin three years\, Southern Ports transitioned from ad hoc\, manual asset management – underpinned by paper-based policies\, disparate databases and manual record-keeping and analysis – to a fully digitised system. The AMS intrinsically links each element of the organisation’s asset management framework with its core vision and objectives\, and it is supported by robust capabilities\, assurance systems and a strong culture of learning. \nAs part of an asset management system transformation\, Southern Ports developed and deployed an online continuous learning system and information library to help develop a workforce capable of meeting its asset management objectives. \nThe process involved an analysis of ‘current state’ staff training and experience\, as well as training needs and career path development options. Southern Ports developed a robust methodology for mapping Global Forum on Maintenance & Asset Management (GFMAM) Modules across all role dimensions\, capturing key aspects of knowledge\, skills and experience\, and how they aligned with subject knowledge across the GFMAM subjects. \nTraining occurred at all three regional port sites\, primarily through online modules via a dedicated training management system. The system recorded and retained certification and verification of competencies\, in line with Certified Practitioner in Asset Management and World Partners in Asset Management CAMA examination processes. \nAsset Management in Synergy – Andre Pratama\, Asset Management Lead\, Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) \nAsset management can be a complex subject and often misunderstood. Synergy has recently progressed its asset management journey and conceptualised an ‘infinity diagram’ model to link many parts of the organisation. DESCRIPTION:Court Services Victoria (CSV) provides corporate and administrative services that support judicial independence in the administration of justice in Victoria. \nWhen CSV was formed\, it inherited a legacy of asset management issues that included an ageing asset base which was not fit for purpose\, limited asset information\, a largely reactive maintenance strategy\, no centralised location for asset information\, multiple changes in leadership\, and staff who operated predominately in silos. \nSolutions to these issues included a fully integrated system-based approach to assist with breaking down barriers of a siloed organisation\, utilisation of a hierarchy of Asset Management Systems\, focusing on the whole of asset lifecycle and compliance with the Victorian Government’s Asset Management and Accountability Framework (AMAF). \nThese initiatives assisted CSV to move away from a backlog filled reactive maintenance strategy\, where catastrophic failure of critical assets could potentially lead to the shutting down of a justice system\, to a proactive 10-year program of works. \nClick here to register\n  \nAbout the speaker:  \nVijay Eden\, Manager Asset Systems\, Court Services Victoria \nVijay is a seasoned asset management professional from an engineering background with a passion for Occupational Health and Safety. In this role\, she provided technical advice for the asset management of over $100 billion worth of assets and projects\, including Submarines\, Operational Patrol Vessels\, Frigates\, Destroyers\, Mine Hunters and autonomous vehicles. As a private citizen\, she continues to provide specialist support to the RAN and its industry partners in asset and asset management system improvement. Ms. Scott will address strategies and successful implementation of military asset management systems that assure desired outcomes\, including significant reduction in resources needed to deliver capability\, articulating risk in the face of funding constraints\, and more. Ms. Scott is Director of Education and Training at The Asset Management College. \n  \n\nPeter Dodgion\, Civil Works Asset Management Chief\, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. \nMr. Dodgion will present on use of a structured approach to asset management to enable the USACE Civil Works mission is to support 25\,000-mi of inland and coastal waterways\, 926 harbors\, 400-mi of shoreline protection\, 3 percent of the electrical generation capacity in the United States and more.  The mission requires operating and maintaining assets as effectively and efficiently as possible in support of many uses\, including potential national defence. Because there is relatively limited annual funding appropriated to the Civil Works Program. Mr. Dodgion will address the USACE asset management system values and benefits as it has evolved since the USACE began studying PAS 55. \n\n  \n  \nThe Asset Management Council & Asset Leadership Network invite individuals and organizations to submit their projects for future Values and Benefits from Asset Management Success Stories web programs. Project data will be assessed for public sharing and potential presentation in a future web program.
