A great attendence of approximately 45 at Sydney's technical and networking session last week. It was noted that Mark Ragusa from Ausgrid has filled the remaining vacant committee membership position, and we welcome him on board.
The Chapter then heard from Lucio Favotto, Principal Manager Infrastructure and Fleet Services, Transport for NSW. Lucio provided an insightful presentation on the following - Asset Management across a multi-modal asset portfolio - Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
The purpose of Lucio's presentation was to share the experiences in the management of a multi-modal complex asset portfolio. Transport for NSW (TfNSW) manages a diverse and complex transport system across various modes (rail, road, bus and ferry) across over 700 operations and maintenance contracts. TfNSW has implemented an Asset Management Framework (AMF) across the organisation. Work is continuing to build asset management knowledge within the organisation. This presentation will discuss the implementation of key asset management initiatives within the organisation that have assisted TfNSW in the long-term sustainability of assets in consideration of balancing cost, risk and performance.
Key takeaways included:
- Asset Management Systems and frameworks to manage multiple service providers
- How to work in with many different stakeholders
- How TfNSW understand and manage across multiple asset classes, all with differing needs and issues, trading these off so that funding is provided accordingly
- Asset Data management for improved Asset Management decisions is critical!
This presentation was very well received and provided an opportunity for many questions from the audience. So many, the Chair had to call time out to give Lucio a break. Again, this shows the level of engagement on the topic from the audience.

On another note we had two potential board members that were being voted for at the upcoming AGM attend. Both Toby Horstead and David Spittiri provided insight on the presentation as well and actively participated in the networking time available before and afterwards.
Overall, it was an excellent turnout and with a very engaged chapter last night. Check out a couple of the snaps taken below.
