EAofficesCanberraThe Canberra Chapter of the AMC started the year with its AGM on Thursday 16th Feb, and it was very pleasing to see some new faces from the Australian National University, as well as high profile consultants KPMG and AMCouncil Executive Commissioner Liaison, Peter Kohler, from the Sydney Chapter was also a most welcome guest. As always, events in Canberra are well catered for, the venue being Engineering House in Barton, which boasts a reception room where we welcome guests with drinks and nibbles, and a well-appointed auditorium.

The evening kicked off with a presentation by Mike Schulzer on “What’s in an Asset Management Plan” which stimulated a lively discussion on the management of assets as diverse as metropolitan train systems, hospitals, defence assets, and electricity distribution networks. Following the discussion, the meeting moved to essential AMC business, plans for the coming year and election of office holders. A new committee was elected, with potentially more members amongst the new faces, given time to warm up to the idea.

At the close of the meeting, we retired to the reception room for a few more drinks and nibbles, and to finish off those lively discussions on what to do about those critical infrastructure assets on which Australians expect to depend for our standard of living. Of course those discussions never really end, se we look forward to our next Canberra Chapter event, with hopefully a few more new faces.
