AMCouncil’s Adelaide Chapter today hosted a lunchtime event exploring the people, experiences and perspectives that shape effective asset management.

The session brought together speakers from across the water, energy, resources and agribusiness sectors to share personal career journeys, practical lessons and reflections on risk, culture, safety, decision-making and organisational objectives.

Carly Price-Hopgood from SA Water shared insights from the Havelock North drinking water contamination incident and the lessons it continues to offer about risk, assets, culture and communication. Ali Walsh from SA Power Networks reflected on the importance of asset management objectives and the value created when they begin to embed across an organisation. Emily Mboya from BHP shared reflections from her career journey and the experiences that have shaped her as an asset management professional.

The presentations were followed by a panel Q&A moderated by Novia Zhao, giving attendees the opportunity to explore the themes of the day in more depth and reflect on how diverse experiences can strengthen asset management practice.

Thank you to Carly, Ali, Emily and Novia for generously sharing their insights and experiences, and to the Adelaide Chapter committee, in particular Phil and Arka, for bringing this event together.

Thank you also to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. Events like this are an important reminder that effective asset management is not only about systems, processes and assets, but also about people, culture and the decisions we make together.
