Abstract:
What does it take to ensure good management of spare parts? What does best practice look like? What actions do the top performers take that poorer performers do not?
The Materials and Spare Parts Management Survey set out to identify the practices, procedures, and policies that have the greatest positive impact on spare parts management. The survey involved interviewing practitioners from many different industries and many countries and utilized a best practice matrix where the interviewees identified their level of achievement for each of the 25 elements of the matrix. Because the survey is interview based it enables facilitation of responses to ensure continuity of interpretation. This provides greater consistency in interpretation of best practice and a higher level of confidence in the responses.
Based on survey results covering 180 storerooms, this presentation will provide direct feedback on best practices and identify those that make a real and genuine difference to spare parts management outcomes. The presentation will:
• Review best practices for spares management
• Discuss the performance of the top scoring companies
• Discuss the performance of the bottom scoring companies
• Provide analysis and interpretation of the responses
• Show which actions make the most difference between the top performers and all the rest
