This meeting will be a presentation by Tony Saker on Process Safety and Building A High Reliability Organisation:
An emerging area of best practice development is Process Safety and a greater, focused approach on managing major asset risks and averting potential catastrophic failures. Process safety links the key elements of best practice asset, risk, safety and performance management.
UMS Group has been working with leading organisations in developing their Process Safety capabilities and this presentation will focus on one organisation, Scottish Power, and how they have built a “High Reliability Organisation” based on a Process Safety platform. The implementation of a Process Safety architecture has led to significant reductions in lost time accident rates from 0.8 to 0.1 per 200,000 hours since 2003 and 29% overall cost reductions, targeting further reductions.
Tony Saker is the Managing Director of UMS Group Asia Pacific (a global management consulting firm specialising in utilities) with over 20 years experience in the infrastructure and utilities industries worldwide. Tony has been with UMS for over 12 years project leading and product developing a number of complex strategic asset management, optimisation, contract management, process redesign, benchmarking, regulatory, and operational projects for a global range of electric and water utility firms. In particular his clients include all major urban Australian utilities and a vast majority worldwide from the UK, Europe, New Zealand, USA, China, and South East Asia.
Prior to joining UMS, Tony worked with Ausgrid (formerly EnergyAustralia/Sydney Electricity/Sydney County Council) for over 10 years in a variety of technical and operational roles including Senior Transmission and Distribution Engineer and ultimately the role as Corporate Strategic Adviser to the Board, CEO and Executive Management.
Tony holds a Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sydney and is a Chartered Professional Engineer and Senior Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia. He also holds a Graduate Diploma of Management and is a member of the Australian Institute of Management and Australian Institute of Management Consultants.
