Getting the most from an Integrated Asset Management System
Duncan Mills, recently of SAP Australia and now a director of Engineering Informatics, will talk about the latest enterprise asset management (EAM) functionality from SAP.
SAP has come a long way since the mid-1990’s when many companies in Australia started implementing enterprise-wide business management systems. Since then many of these companies have seen the value of integrating assets, documents, resources, parts, procurement and financials to get a more detailed and accurate view of their asset performance. In this talk we’ll discuss how SAP is being made more usable for maintenance practitioners, what’s included in the latest SAP EAM functionality and how insightful reporting can be generated from the SAP system.
Some of the key features of EAM systems to be covered are:
1. Usability: Improving usability for better process compliance and more meaningful maintenance feedback. We’ll discuss some tools to achieve this, such as Adobe forms, mobile asset management or web based solutions.
2. Functionality: Integrated work order management, with specific reference to linear asset management, rotables management and document management
3. Visibility: Using SAP reporting tools to generate integrated reporting from a single source of asset information.
This presentation will be useful for all asset and maintenance management practitioners interested in understanding how to use the SAP software tools to improve their maintenance and capital projects processes.
Duncan has an honours degree in physics and a masters degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Cape Town where he completed a thesis on the wear resistance of stainless steel. After university he spent 2 years as a research engineer working on improving the performance of tungsten carbide used in mining tools and on analysing metallurgical failures of rock drilling equipment. Failure analysis, and how to prevent metallurgical failure, lead him to the use of computerised maintenance management systems to improve reliability and equipment performance. Over the last 14 years he has consulted to many asset intensive companies on how to use SAP to better manage maintenance processes. Duncan recently left SAP Australia to take up a position as a director of Engineering Informatics, who are a specialist Melbourne based SAP implementation consultancy.
