Define & Establish Asset Management (Design in Reliability)

“Getting it right up front”

When there is a need for asset expansion it is easy to rate the asset on an upfront  value driven decision, but what is the effect of that decision across the life of system?  This technical session will look at two real life case studies where the value proposition has been justified on the whole of life cost.

We invite asset managers, finance managers, project managers, operation managers, reliability engineers, maintenance practitioners, procurement specialists, and technologists to attend and participate.

Date: Friday, 8th March 2013

Presentations include:

1.    Applied Asset Management in the Selection Phase Study- John Doran (Aecom).  Applied Asset Management, integrated materials, and durability engineering outputs with value engineering and ‘optioneering’ results in a remarkable value proposition.  John presents a case study where his team demonstrated NPC savings exceeding $500m and potentially improved revenues of 4.3Bn for an additional front end investment of $3m.

2.    Innovative Solutions driving whole of life benefits in the Rail Industry – Richard Lungmuss (Calibre Global).  Richard’s talk will focus on the problem in which degrading concrete cable troughing was impacting safety and performance on the UK railway and how a solution was arrived at using an initial design which was modified in discussion with the user (Richard). The eventual solution then had to prove itself against concrete troughing. Richard will discuss some of the problems which the manufacturer faced in getting this product adopted, despite the overwhelmingly positive response to it from the users, and the self-evident superiority of it against its concrete counterpart. This will talk prove particularly interesting to Asset Managers interested in innovation and seeking to get their companies to take a whole-life, rather than capital only, view of their projects!
