The Asset Management Council Melbourne Chapter recently welcomed members and industry professionals for an insightful discussion on one of the most challenging aspects of modern governance and assurance: navigating the “seams” between regulatory obligations, risk frameworks and organisational accountability.
Presented by Tony Ridley, Attesting Across the Seams explored how critical infrastructure and asset-intensive organisations increasingly operate across multiple compliance, security, resilience and governance frameworks. While these frameworks are often well established individually, the greatest risks can emerge where responsibilities, information and assurance activities intersect.
The session highlighted the importance of looking beyond compliance as a series of separate activities and instead adopting an integrated approach that connects asset management, risk management, cybersecurity, resilience and governance practices.
A recurring theme throughout the presentation was that effective assurance depends on a clear understanding of an organisation’s assets, dependencies and critical functions. When information is fragmented across systems, teams or reporting structures, executives and boards may struggle to gain a complete picture of organisational risk. By strengthening these connections, organisations can make more informed decisions and build greater resilience.
Attendees also explored the growing expectations being placed on executive leadership and boards to provide assurance across increasingly complex operating environments. This requires robust asset information, strong governance practices and an ability to demonstrate that risks are being effectively managed across organisational boundaries.
Beyond the presentation itself, the event provided an excellent opportunity for networking and knowledge sharing, with members contributing perspectives from across a range of industries and sectors.
Thank you to Tony Ridley, the Asset Management Council Melbourne Chapter and everyone who attended for contributing to a thought-provoking discussion.
For Asset Management Council members who were unable to attend, or those wishing to revisit the content, the presentation slides are available for download through the Member Zone on the Asset Management Council website.
As organisations continue to navigate evolving regulatory requirements and increasing complexity, conversations like these remain essential in strengthening our collective understanding of risk, resilience and asset management excellence.
