The concept of risk—including both opportunities and threats—sounds simple enough, but many have attempted to tackle it with limited success. Is opportunity the opposite of risk, or is it something else entirely? How can we quantify and manage opportunities in the same way we quantify and manage risks?

At V/Line, Fiona Beckley, Asset Information Specialist, has been exploring these questions (and more) while developing an Opportunity Framework. This presentation shares that journey, the quandaries this concept presents, and the current state of the solution being developed.

Fiona Beckley has been working in Asset Mangement for over 20 years, in rail, water and manufacturing. Currently the Asset Information Specialist at V/Line, Fiona supports the Information and Data component of the Asset Management system, which includes the development of a controlled business mapping and diagramming (i.e. “Visualising V/Line) system, developing and rolling out the Asset Information Strategy, and designing an Opportunities On A Page solution.
