Webinar – Transgrid’s Gorilla Robot Delivers Smarter and Safer Solutions

This presentation will focus on how Transgrid deployed Gorilla Mk1, an innovative conductor-stringing robot by Crest Robotics, to address the complexity and high risks associated with installing high voltage transmission line conductors above roads and overhead lines.

Traditionally, these activities require extensive temporary works, including guard structures and safety nets, heavy plant, traffic control and exposure to working at significant heights. The Gorilla Mk1 system utilises a “cradle-block” configuration to ensure controlled conductor installation, ensuring the conductor remains safely above roadways or other obstacles.

Through strong collaboration between Asset Management, Infrastructure Delivery and Crest Robotics, Transgrid embedded this innovation into standard practice, transforming a high-risk, labour-intensive activity into a safer, engineered and repeatable solution that delivers sustained safety and lifecycle value.
