VAGO released its findings from the audit on the Quality of Victoria’s Critical Data Assets on 14 May 2024. [Quality of Victoria’s Critical Data Assets | Victorian Auditor-General’s Office]

The Victorian Auditor-General’s review found that government agencies are not adequately assuring the quality of their critical data assets in line with the Data Quality Standard. None of the 11 audited agencies fully met the standard, with most lacking clear identification of critical data, effective governance, and required data quality plans. This raises concerns about the reliability of information used in decision-making, policy development, and service delivery. Critical data assets—such as payroll, service activity, and payment systems—are essential to the functioning of government, and their mismanagement poses risks to both agencies and the community’s social and economic wellbeing.
