Brisbane Chapter’s technical session on 17 November 2015 was a great success. Close to 100 engineers, managers, directors, asset management professionals and students attended full or part of presentations and panel discussion session.
Chapter Chair Gopi Chattopadhyay presented welcome message to delegates and introduced speakers and panel members. Committee members including Steve Berquist provided excellent support for making this event a big success.
Glenn Ingram, National Chair, presented AMCouncil initiatives, AMBOK and AMPEAK 2016 opportunities and future events of AM Council.
Peter Ho, Incoming President (2016) of Engineers Australia, Queensland Division was guest of honour. He mentioned Asset Management is important for engineering decisions and thanked Asset Management Council for bringing engineering and management views together in these technical sessions.
Kevin Lines, Group Manager, Asset Management, CS Energy, presented on auditing and benchmarking and explained what requires it to make benchmarking a great success. These are:
- A strong and active commitment from senior management to lead and implement the benchmarking process
- A willingness to change and adapt based on the benchmarking findings.
- A realisation that the competition is constantly changing.
- An openness to new ideas, creativity and innovativeness in their application to existing processes. ·
- A continuous benchmarking effort.
- A willingness to share information with benchmarking partners (e.g. other organisations)
John Switala, Lead member for TAMP, Department of Local Government and Infrastructure planning presented on Total Asset Management Plan (TAMP) Framework of Queensland Government. Highlights of the presentation are:
- 2014 Pilot program involving 7 key departments
- 2015 TAMP submission involving all of 19 Queensland Government departments
- Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning’s leading role in implementation
He also discussed on how TAMP can be helpful for State Infrastructure Plan (SIP) released on 26 October 2015.

This session was the first official presentation by the department of local government and infrastructure planning in any professional body event.
Panel session was on how to balance cost risk and performance.
Michael Killeen, AMBOK Team, AMCouncil presented from Sydney using remote presentation technology on Asset Management Councils approaches in balancing cost, risk and performance.
Andrew Golding from DTMR presented on Asset Management in the Department of Transport and Main Roads. He explained how TMR is addressing it’s challenge of balancing cost, Risk and Performance.
David Cox presented Risk Engineering Society’s approaches to managing risks with focus on enhancing performance and reducing costs.
There were questions, comments and positive discussions from Audience. Panel members responded nicely to all the questions from the floor. Glenn Ingram chaired this session and it went very well.
There was a networking before and after the sessions. This event was sponsored by ABB. Andy Foster, Senior Sales Director at ABB and Suzanne Pelizzari, Regional Marketing Director – Asia Pacific at Ventyx, ABB attended these sessions. They presented token of acknowledgement to presenters and participated in networking sessions. They were extremely happy with the high quality technical discussions, outstanding sessions and excellent networking opportunities.
Overall feedback from audience for all these sessions, speakers, panel members and networking sessions was very positive.
