New Keynote speakers:
Colin Thorne – Mr. Thorne is the General Manager of Land and Maritime at DMO. He oversees the Land and Maritime Systems, the Air Warfare Destroyer Program and Australian Shipbuilding Industry Planning. Throughout his career, he has worked on a number of high-profile projects including Airborne Early Warning and Control, P-3C Electronic Support Measures, and the P-3C Refurbishment. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics (RMIT) and a Masters of Science in Military, Electronics Systems Engineering (RMCS, UK). He was also appointed member of the Order of Australia (AM) in June 2001 and Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in June 2014.
Adanan Mohamed Hussain – Adanan is currently the Deputy Director General of the Public Works Department Malaysia. Adanan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Portsmouth Polytechnic, UK and a Masters in Transportation Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (USA). Adanan joined the government in 1979 at the Public Works Department. He has been involved in various stages of road construction such as planning, design, project supervision, contract administration and maintenance. He has been involved in asset management as a Senior Director of Maintenance Engineering Branch, in which he was responsible for managing public buildings, federal roads and slopes. On 1 April 2013, he was appointed as Deputy Director General of Public Works (Business Sector). He was later appointed as Deputy Director General of Public Works (Infra Sector) on 16 April 2015 as part of the Public Works Department restructuring.
Asset Management Body of Knowledge Presentations:
Cost, Risk and Performance – Michael Killeen, AMBoK Projects Director, will be presenting on cost risk and performance on behalf of the Asset Management Council. Below is a preview of the presentation.
“The publication of ISO 55000 series in January 2014 provides guidance to organisations on the requirements of a system that is intended to “achieve a desired balance between performance, cost and risk”. In the absence of any other guidance from within the asset management community a broader business value based perspective (supported by AS4183) is established on balancing cost and performance. But what of risk? This session will help to understand the point of view that the AM Council has regarding balancing Cost , Risk and Performance.”
IEC standard – Jim Kennedy, CFAM, will help in discussing the imminent release of a new IEC Technical Specification IEC 62577 TS Dependability management– Application guide – Dependability and Financial Processes for implementing Asset Management Systems. Jim is a member of the Standards Australia Committee QR5 and IEC Technical Committee TC56 covering a suite of 65 standards in the IEC Dependability series. These standards provide “how to” guidance on processes that aid the achievement organisational objectives relating to the RAMS performance of assets. These standards are applicable to all stages in an assets life. Progress on evolving the following standards by TC56 will also be described during the session:
• IEC 60812 Failure mode effects analysis standard – intended replacement for MIL-STD-1629A and SAE
• IEC 60300-3-10 Maintainability and Supportability – new concepts in supportability
• IEC 60300-3-3 Life cycle costing – potential replacement for AS/NZS 3546
• IEC 62402 Obsolescence management – new standard close to FDIS
• IEC 62550 Spare parts management – early development

Technical papers and tutorials:
ISO 5500x stream – This stream has a number of sessions that will help you understand the requirements of ISO 55001, lessons learnt from organisations implementing ISO 55001, and the requirements for individuals to have ISO 55001 assessors. If you are an organisation that is considering or currently implementing the ISO 5500x standards, this session will give you insights on how to tackle the implementation phase and avoid pitfalls.
Culture and Leadership – This session includes a number of presentations that talk about different organisations’ experiences in relation to how culture and leadership enables and supports asset management. This session will strongly help attendees in their journey towards successful asset management implementation and awareness.
Other technical papers and tutorials that are new to the updated program include Value, Financing and Funding, as well as Human Factors.
