Digital Twin for Earth

The European Union’s ten-year initiative, Destination Earth, involves the creation of a digital twin of earth.
The highly accurate digital model of earth will map climate development and extreme events as accurately as possible in space and time. Observational data will be continuously incorporated into the digital twin to predict possible future trajectories. Information available from the earth’s twin will be used to:

VLine Receives Accreditation to ISO55001

V/Line has been certified to the ISO 55001:2014 Asset Management System following an audit of its policies, framework and procedures by BSI Group last year.
The certification applies to all V/Line assets, including trains, tracks, signals, stations, structures and ICT, and acknowledges work done in all parts of the asset management process, including strategic planning, financial management, assurance, risk management and planning along with physical inspections, maintenance and renewal programs.

UNESCO Report – Engineering for Sustainable Development

In recognition of World Engineering Day on Thursday 4th March, UNESCO released its report, entitled Engineering for Sustainable Development. As noted in the Executive Summary, engineering plays a key role in ‘connecting social needs with appropriate technological innovation and commercial applications1‘. In other words, where there is a disaster or the recent global pandemic, engineering assets are often the lever to prise society to recovery.

Let’s shine a spotlight on a few of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
