Asset Management Council Membership Renewal FAQs

It’s that time of year again! Here are some recently asked questions about the new renewal system.

Why is the AM Council managing its own membership renewals?

The Asset Management Council and Engineers Australia, with reluctance, made the decision that the Asset Management Council would take on the renewal process for members in the short term. This splits membership payment into two processes for those who are members of both organisations.
The new Engineers Australia portal, excellently designed for individual members, is not yet easily functional for our corporate member representatives, who represent almost half of our membership. Additional features for the EA portal are still under development, which is why we plan that the situation will revert in the future.

Is there an AM Council membership discount if I’m also an EA member?

We are still clarifying the discount that applies to the first technical society membership of EA members under this current and hopefully temporary system. We will let you know as soon as possible if the discount still is available and can be applied.

Keep your eyes open for more FAQs, and if in doubt, please don’t hesitate to call us on 03 9819 2515.

AMF Online Exam

How long do I have to complete the online exam?

Once the online exam has been opened for you on the day of your Asset Management Fundamentals course you will have two week to complete it. It will close 14days after the date of your course.

What happens if I fail the exam?

You have one opportunity to re-sit the exam should you be unsuccessful on your first attempt. This re-sit must be taken within the two week timeframe following the AMF course. Should you choose not to re-sit the exam during this time frame, you will be able to at a later date, however a small administration charge will apply to re-open the exam for you.

If you fail the exam twice, it is Asset Management Council policy that in order to have the opportunity to re-sit the exam, you must attend another Asset Management Fundamentals course.

Oops! I forgot to sit the exam on time and now my access has expired! Is there anything I can do?

Should you choose not to sit the exam during the time frame, or forget to sit it, you can call the Asset Management Council on 03 9819 2515 and we can organise for you to sit it at a later date. A small administration charge will apply to re-open the exam for you.

Why should I sit the online exam?

There are many advantages to completing and passing the on-line exam in order to receive a Certificate of Achievement, including:

  • Evidence to your current and future employees that you have attended the Asset Management Fundamentals course
  • Proof to yourself, colleagues and employees that you have a deeper understanding of asset management related topics and issues
  • Contributes 50% of the required points to become a Certified Associate in Asset Management (CAAM)

How long does the online exam take?

The on-line exam consists of 39 multiple choice questions and is estimated to take only 45 – 60 minutes to complete. There is no time limit on the exam once you open it however, so please take your time when answering the questions, and refer to the course workbook if you need to.

Is there a time limit in which I need to complete the exam?

There is no time limit on the exam once you open it so please take your time when answering the questions, and refer to the course workbook if you need to. You must, however, submit your exam within the 14 day time period.

When do I receive the exam results?

Results are given within seconds of submitting the exam. If you are not notified straight away on whether you passed or failed the exam, then something has gone wrong – you can recover your answers by hitting the back button. It is recommended that you save your answers occasionally, especially before you submit the exam.

I have not received my exam results, what happened?

If you are not notified straight away on whether you passed or failed the exam, then something has gone wrong in the submission process – you can recover your answers by hitting the back button. It is recommended that you save your answers occasionally, especially before you submit the exam. If you cannot recover your answers, you will have to re-do the exam.
