Dams Safety NSW is an independent regulator established under the Dams Safety Act 2015 and ensures that risks to public safety, the environment and dam assets are at an acceptable level. To achieve this, Dams Safety NSW has implemented its Strategic Plan 2020-2021 that sets the direction of safety guidelines and longer-term strategic outcomes to focus on its vision of safe dams for NSW1.
The Asset Management Council Perth Chapter facilitated a government focused community of practice with virtually all agencies with large infrastructure asset portfolios represented, as well as the AMCouncil national chair, Dave Daines, and Perth Chapter chair, Dr Carla Boehl. This is the 4th government CoP the Chapter has run in recent years.

Hammersmith Bridge in London is a fine example of engineering expertise. First built in 1887, it crosses the River Thames between Hammersmith and Barnes, and was designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette. It is 13m wide and 210m long, with a central roadway and pedestrian crossing on either side. It is also London’s weakest bridge, with a 7.5 tonne limit and recent traffic flow, predominately for single-decker buses, has been controlled by traffic lights[1].
As Sydney commuters bustle their way through traffic, a breakthrough—literally—has been made on the WestConnex tunnels project. Roadheaders, those large excavating assets, have carved their way from the M4-M5 Tunnels to the M8 Motorway, connecting for the first time. A milestone achievement, deep underground. WestConnex CEO, Andrew Head, notes there are currently twenty-eight roadheaders in operation, the largest number on a single project. Each asset progresses approximately twenty-five metres each week, and to date, have excavated seventeen kilometres1.
