In these current times of uncertainty, when the global outlook seems bleak, the Asset Management Council is thrilled to hear and share good news. The Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Karen Andrews, announced that SmartCrete CRC will receive $21 million in government support under the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) program.
Concrete is the second-most used material on earth after water1 and can be found in buildings, roads, runways, pipes and mining. It is essential, cost-effective, strong and durable. However, concrete is also a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions and SmartCrete CRC is leading the way with research to lower the nation’s carbon footprint by introducing innovative methods in concrete manufacturing.
In a five-stage program that represents the whole-of-life cycle to the concrete product, SmartCrete CRC will incorporate a step change in areas such as engineered solutions, asset management, sustainability, disposal and environment2. In the most significant collaborative research project undertaken in the concrete industry, and in leveraging resources of partnering organisations to invest in research and development opportunities, construction of concrete will be revolutionised.
