Technical Session – Melbourne
Chapter: Melbourne
Date: Thursday 9 April 2015
Time: 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start
Location: Engineering House, 21 Bedford Street, North Melbourne
Topic: Integrated Asset Management Systems
When push really comes to shove, what operators most need to succeed is access to the information they need, when they need it—and ideally nothing more. Process upsets and other crises draw these priorities in stark relief: raw data, alarms and other inputs must be transformed into actionable information in context in real-time—easily viewed, listened to, or otherwise sensed and interpreted in an integrated environment regardless of source. This includes traditional data, such as from the control system itself and secondary plant and business systems, as well as voice and video communication with field operators and other personnel. The challenge is to provide seamless access to these multiple sources of information, but at the same time not overload the operator with information that’s irrelevant or data that’s too granular. Using examples from the water and petrochemical industries, the team from ABB will illustrate how the integration of data sources can contribute to better decisions in an operational environment.
Speaker: Damien Tyrell, ABB
Note: The April technical session will also be the Melbourne Chapter’s AGM, at which we will be asking members to ratify nominations to the chapter organising committee. The Organising Committee acts as a group of advisors and volunteers who make the Melbourne chapter events happen. This year we have 18 members who are keen to help us organise the chapter events, which if all are endorsed, would give us plenty of capacity to get things done and to represent the chapter externally at various functions.
