Melbourne Technical Session

Topic: Portable Diesel Generation for Electricity Distribution Network Asset Management
Where: Engineering House, 21 Bedford Street, North Melbourne
When: Thursday 14 May 5.45pm arrival for 6pm start.

Speaker: Siriwann Sao, AusNet Services
Bio: Siri is an Energy Systems Engineer in the Network Modernisation department at AusNet Services. AusNet Services’ electricity distribution network serves more than 685 thousand Victorian households and businesses with approximately 45 thousand kilometres of conductor and cable. The network is located in the eastern half of Victoria primarily serving outer metro and regional customers.
Topic: Siri will present a demand management solution to provide network support using mobile generation. AusNet Services’ mobile generation fleet comprises containerised diesel generators and step-up transformers that enable the organisation to cater for constrained network demand conditions. The fleet can be deployed to supply and feed into an islanded section of the network or a meshed, network grid capacity.
Siri will illustrate how the fleet is being utilised to maintain supply to customers during planned asset works, and support asset management decision making by providing an option to address localised network constraints, in an economically efficient manner when compared with traditional network augmentation.
