Topic: ISO55000 Standards Framework – challenges for asset management
Speaker: Tom Carpenter, CEO, Institute of Quality Asset Management

Tom Carpenter is the current APESMA representative to the Australian Mirror Committee for the development of the ISO55000 standards and an Australian Representative on the ISO development team.
Having attended every development workshop, including the latest, last month in Prague, he will provide an update on the latest status of the draft standards, some insights into the challenges likely to confront industry when the standard is released, and the evolving requirements around competencies that match the standards.
Speaker Bio:
Tom has over 30 years’ experience in infrastructure management and operation. A Civil Engineer by trade, he has a Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering and is also a qualified trainer. Currently one of Australia’s representatives on PC251, the ISO working group for developing the ISO 55000 series of Asset Management Standards he recently attended the last meeting in Prague.
Having worked in various technical and management roles over 16 years in utilities in strategic infrastructure planning, operations and maintenance, Tom also spent six years as a Project Director with the Water Services Association of Australia, 2 years as a senior research analyst with the Productivity Commission, the Commonwealth Government think tank for micro-economic reform, several years as an asset management consultant, and is now the CEO of the Institute of Quality Asset Management, a private Registered Training Organisation he specifically set up 12 months ago to develop and deliver accredited Asset Management training. Tom and his team currently offer AQF accredited AM training from Certificate IV to Graduate Diploma levels. His clients and participants are drawn from mining, water, electricity, consulting, State government and local government.
