AMCouncil’s Human–AI Boundary in Asset Management project is now underway, with members invited to contribute through a series of online workshops exploring one of the most important questions facing the profession:
What should AI do, what should humans do, and where should the boundary sit across the asset management lifecycle?
Thank you to all members who have already registered for one or more workshops in the series. These sessions will bring together asset management professionals from across sectors to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in asset knowledge, condition assessment, performance, risk, planning, investment, operations, intervention, governance and accountability.
For members who have not yet registered, there is still time to take part. Members are welcome to attend one or more workshops, with each session contributing to the development of AMCouncil’s living knowledge product: The Human–AI Boundary Framework for Asset Management.
In addition to attending the workshops, members can now contribute to the project in two further ways.
1. Contribute an example, issue or case study
AMCouncil is building a case study database to support this project. Members are invited to submit one or two examples, issues or case studies that show how AI is being considered, used, tested or challenged in asset management.
These contributions may relate to areas such as asset data, condition assessment, maintenance, planning, investment decisions, operations, risk, governance, accountability, assurance or workforce capability.
This is an opportunity to share practical experience from your sector and help ensure the framework is grounded in real-world asset management practice.
Time commitment: approximately 2 to 4 hours.
Contributors may be asked to:
- submit one or two examples, issues or case studies;
- optionally join a short follow-up call; and
- review a draft case summary, if their example is used.
Benefits to contributors include:
- recognition as a contributor, if desired;
- a chance to showcase sector experience;
- early access to draft outputs;
- practical insight from other member cases; and
- the opportunity to influence AMCouncil’s recommendations.
Submit your example or case study here.
2. Express interest in volunteering to help develop the framework
Following the workshops and the collation of member articles and case studies, AMCouncil will bring together a small group of volunteers to help develop the Human–AI Boundary Framework for Asset Management.
There are two volunteer opportunities available.
Volunteer Reviewer
Volunteer Reviewers will help review selected case study material and provide feedback on relevance, clarity and practical insight.
Working Group Member
Working Group Members will help use the information gathered from the workshops and case studies to:
- review and tag inputs;
- identify patterns and themes;
- support one webinar or synthesis session;
- review draft outputs; and
- help shape the final recommendations.
Time commitment: approximately 8 to 12 hours, spread across three months on an ad hoc basis.
Benefits to volunteers include:
- deeper involvement in a visible AMCouncil knowledge product;
- recognition in the final output, subject to preference;
- peer learning and network building;
- a stronger contribution to AMCouncil through leadership; and
- the opportunity to help shape the future of asset management practice.

Why member input matters
Artificial intelligence is already beginning to influence asset management decisions. It can support analysis, identify patterns, process large volumes of information and assist with planning and optimisation. However, asset management decisions also involve judgement, accountability, context, ethics, risk, value and long-term consequences for communities.
That is why this project is focused not only on what AI can do, but on where human expertise, professional judgement and governance must remain central.
Whether you participate in a workshop, submit a case study, or volunteer to help develop the framework, your contribution will help AMCouncil build guidance that reflects the experience and judgement of the asset management community.
