World Water Day 2022 is all about groundwater and making the invisible, visible. We’re thinking about how effective asset management can ensure that groundwater sources are explored, protected and sustainably used.
Almost all liquid freshwater in the world is groundwater, this groundwater supports drinking water supplies, sanitation, farming, industry and entire ecosystems. However, this incredibly valuable source is being overused in many areas and polluted from human activity.
Many of our organisations will have sustainability goals, but do these include targets to safeguard water and ensure sustainable use so that the needs of the people and planet are balanced? Do asset managers treat water as an asset or a commodity to be used?
