I write to inform you of certain important decisions taken at the inaugural Annual General Meeting of the New Zealand Chapter of the Asset Management Council Limited (AMCouncil) held via GotoMeeting on April 28 2020
The Chapter Committee was meant to hold the meetings in multiple sites linked remotely from Auckland but due to the disruptions of COVID-19 had to reschedule to a later date.

Tuesday 31st March saw the Brisbane Chapter host a webinar on the subject of risk within asset management. This presentation saw Geoff Hales present on risk and criticality for optimised management of assets and Kim Adil speak about risk implications for RCM, equipment inspections and work execution.
It was interesting to see locations of the attendees taking up of the webinar not just across Australia but stretching as far as the USA, Europe, Middle East and even Moscow. The chapter are also planning for the seminars for the foreseeable future to be delivered by webinar.

Thank you to all who nominated to join the AMCouncil Brisbane Chapter Committee. All nominations were accepted at last night’s Annual General Meeting. The re-elections of Keith Paintin as Chapter Chair and Peter Pennell as Chapter Vice Chair were also confirmed.

The Canberra chapter began the year with a case study presentation by Wayne Francisco from GHD, and the AGM. Wayne had the challenging project of introducing asset management to MTA Bridges and Tunnels in New York City. This journey began in 2007 and is still ongoing, but Wayne highlighted a number of hurdles and traps that organisations can encounter on the way to achieving a mature asset management system, not the least of these is what to do when the company has a change of management and the inevitable restructure.

Melbourne started it’s 2020 technical session programme by delving into the design, implementation and certification of engineering and asset management systems to ISO55001 and ISO15288, particularly for the case of Yarra Trams over their 2-year management systems journey and the next steps for them. The interactive session was presented by Dr Allen Tam, currently the Manager of Strategic Asset Management at Yarra Trams who is leading the ISO55001 certification and reliability engineering journey.

Sydney Chapter kicked off 2020 with its Annual General Meeting at Ausgrid 24-28 Campbell St, Sydney, followed by a presentation from Martin Kerr on ISO 55010: Asset Management – Guidance on the Alignment of Financial and Non-Financial Functions in Asset Management.
