The wastewater collection network in metropolitan Adelaide consists of a large number of assets distributed over a wide geographic area. This poses significant challenges in both conducting and prioritising asset management activities for these assets, including maintenance, rehabilitation, condition assessment and replacement.
State Water Corporation (SWC) is a bulk water supply business which manages a portfolio of large dam structures prescribed under the Dams Safety Act (1978). The Act sets out deterministic criteria to ensure that dam owners apply adequate consideration to dam safety for structures under their control.
BMA’s Blackwater Mine has over 320 maintenance people, a $140M operating budget and a $40M plus equipment capital budget. I have led the deployment of asset management processes and built organisational capability resulting in marked improvements in safety and key equipment availabilities while working within a much more defined cost structure.
Traditionally reliability effort and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies have been conducted on a project basis and one of the most common pitfalls to a successful outcome is the effort involved in implementation of the resulting maintenance strategies. It is all too common for RCM plans to be developed which result in a significant reduction of business risk only to be never completely implemented.
This paper outlines some of the benefits achieved at Powercor Australia through the evolution of asset management methodologies and their application. It considers recent history and the knowledge gained throughout the journey with particular emphasis upon efficient work packaging through improving diagnostic techniques. Click here to read more
