The AMCouncil Liaison Commissioner, Peter Kohler, is the AM Council’s representative on the Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM) project that is reviewing the GFMAM Maintenance Framework using a strict ISO/Standards type process.
With data becoming increasingly more critical in every aspect of our lives, it makes sense to leverage its transformational power. Data is the core capability that ought to underpin every organisation’s business objectives and asset management plans.
However, the ability to capture, store and leverage data in almost every business and organisation is ad-hoc. Data storage systems are organic, a game of catch-and-grab, mainly due to the three Vs of data: verocity, volume and variety. This shambolic method often results in information silos, making asset management strategies increasingly difficult.

In Australia’s north, the Mobile Control and Reporting Centre at RAAF Base Darwin holds responsibility to ‘prepare for, conduct and sustain effective deployable air surveillance and air battle management in the Unit’s designated area of responsibility’1. The unit’s simulation and communication assets are distributed across multiple defence sites.

The recommencement of critical infrastructure in Queensland sends a powerful signal to the state’s residents of its recovery phase, following on from COVID-19. Powerlink’s decision to recommence the $67 million works across three key projects will support the creation of around 150 jobs1.
When the world was in the grip of the horror of WWII, Clyde Engineering, based in Sydney, rolled out the first of its C38 steam engine, the 3801.The 38 class were the last coal-fuelled steam engine to be manufactured for NSW fleet of rail stock. From 1943, the 3801 rumbled along rail tracks, the familiar and now-nostalgic trail of steam and smoke chuffing from its chimney, to commute passengers to and from capital cities, and townships in between. Hobart and Darwin were the only capital cities to not greet the 3801. In 1967, the steam engine was decommissioned from active NSW rail service, in favour of diesel engines.
